Buganda Kingdom 2nd Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education who also doubles as Insurance Institute of Uganda (IIU) Chairperson Board of Trustees, Prof Twaha Kawaase interracts with IIU PRO Agnes E Nantaba at the 4th Buganda Education Week and exhibition held at Old Kampala SSS. 


The Insurance Institute of Uganda (IIU) was among the best exhibitors at the 4th Buganda Education Week and Exhibition at Old Kampala SSS that attracted over 100 exhibitors. The three day event was held between June 12th and June 14th  2019.

Held under the theme ‘Innovation, Science and Technology, A Pillar for the 21st Century’, the event attracted hundreds of Advanced level students from secondary schools across the country.

Organized by the department of education under the Ministry of Social Services in the Kingdom of Buganda, the exhibition sought to reach out to parents, teachers, students and the general public as a key strategy to providing career knowledge, academic and professional choice options.

In his opening remarks at the official opening of the exhibition, Buganda Kingdom 2nd Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education who also doubles as IIU Chairperson Board of Trustees, Prof Twaha Kawaase applauded IIU for steering the efforts in professionalizing the insurance sector in Uganda through its professional and certified courses.

“Education exhibitions provide an opportunity for Institutions like the Insurance Institute of Uganda to further their mandate of carrying out education, training and professional development in the insurance sector,” said Prof Kawaase.

The exhibition was an exceptional opportunity to promote our services as well as improve visibility for the Institute and programmes to the prospective students. There were also engagements with over 1000 students guided about choosing insurance as a career. At the event, partnerships with different schools were established on how to improve basic understanding of insurance through launching insurance clubs.

According to the IIU Public Relations and Marketing officer, Agnes Eriosi Nantaba, insurance clubs will go a long way in improving the understanding of insurance and the career options available in the profession.

She said, “We have started launching insurance clubs in schools and institutions of learning to guide students on how they can make career choices in insurance”.

IIU is the training arm of the insurance industry in Uganda that offers certified and professional programmes in insurance. These are offered in areas of Certificate of Profience, Certificate in Insurance and Diploma in Insurance.
