Insurance Training College Launches Insurance Club at Bishop Stuart University Mbarara

ITC Launches Insurance Club at Bishop Stuart University Mbarara         .

Mbarara, Uganda: The Insurance Training College (ITC) in collaboration with Bishop Stuart University Mbarara have launched the ITC Insurance Club at the University Campus in Mbarara on Thursday February 6th 2020.

The College delegation was led by ITC Principal, Saul Sseremba accompanied by Deputy Principal Jonan Kisakye and Public Relations Officer Agnes E Nantaba. ITC was received by a team from BSU led by Acting Vice Chancellor and Academic Registrar Aruho Abdon Lutega, dean of students Rev. Muhangi Francis, Director Finance and Administration David Namanya among other members of the management of BSU.  

The ITC insurance club launch marked a monumental step in establishing a working relationship between ITC and BSU which will go a long way in achieving the key mandate of the College of enhancing professionalism.

ITC was established in 1964 as the Insurance Institute of Uganda (IIU) to serve as the training arm of the insurance sector in Uganda. The College is mandated to carry out Education, Training and Professional Development in the Insurance Sector. ITC is also the professionally recognized membership institution for the insurance industry and its membership comprises of corporate members who include insurance companies, Health Membership Organizations, Loss Assessors and Adjusters and Insurance Brokers. ITC members also include individual membership of all persons engaged in insurance business.

ITC mandate is recognized under the Insurance Act 2017.

In his remarks, ITC Principal, Saul Sseremba spoke on the importance of student forums such as the ITC Insurance Club in engaging on key development drivers in a dynamic business landscape for which insurance is a key stabilizer.

Sseremba cited that the launch of student engagement platforms is a signal that the College has positioned itself to drive the professionalism of the insurance industry in Uganda upon establishment of key foundations amongst young people.

“Insurance Clubs are some of the key College initiatives aimed at creating awareness and understanding of Insurance among the student community,” said Sseremba.

“The insurance clubs offer students the opportunity to participate in professional and membership activities that are consistent with the development of professional insurance knowledge, skills, values and attitudes expected from insurance professionals”.

As part of the engagement, the College also held career talks at Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) as a build-up to the launch of an insurance club at the same institution.

ITC has so far launched Insurance Clubs at Bugema University, Kyambogo University, Makerere University Business School and has finalized plans to launch the same in Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST), Ndejje University and Makerere University.
