The Diploma in Insurance (DIU) is 9 papers that lead to specialization as per the chosen career path of the student within the insurance profession.

Advanced Diploma In Insurance

 The Advanced Diploma in Insurance qualification is designed for seasoned insurance professionals wishing to improve their leadership skills and work at a strategic or senior management level. The programme further facilitates the implementation of change and has a positive influence on one’s career and overall performance.

By becoming an Advanced Diploma qualified student, one will join a community of proven insurance professionals with the requisite skills and knowledge to develop the insurance sector.

The S6 Vacist Program 

This program is aimed at training A ‘level vacist in the field of Insurance at the Certificate of Proficiency in Insurance (COP) level.  The programme aims at providing insurance knowledge and soft skills for these students with the aim of increasing their exposure to insurance knowledge before they join university or the working sector.

It’s a six (6) weeks program with course units & soft skills like

•  Fundamentals of Insurance

•  Life/Non-life Insurance

•  ICT, public speaking, leadership, marketing & interpersonal skills among others.




After the Six weeks, the students are evaluated and sent to different insurance companies to get hands on experience. The objectives of sending them includes:

•  Mentorship of the students admitted on the programme.

•  Exposure of the students to the various opportunities & areas of interest in the Insurance industry.

Certificate of Proficiency (COP) Course Details

The Certificate of Proficiency (COP) is the foundational course in insurance introducing the basic principles. A Subset of the Certificate in insurance, the COP is appropriate for those starting out in the insurance industry. A student will qualify for the Certificate of Proficiency by sitting and being examined in two papers i.e. Fundamentals of Insurance and any one paper from the core insurance courses.

• Principles and Practice  of General Insurance  Business

Certificate in Insurance (CIU) Course Details

The Certificate in Insurance (CIU) is appropriate for candidates who wish to gain a broad understanding of insurance principles, Key disciplines, and products.   A student who will have covered the two papers (Fundamentals of Insurance and any one paper from the core Insurance courses) at COP will be exempted from those papers at CIU.

OUR BACKGROUND

The Insurance Training College (ITC) of Uganda was established in 1964 as the training arm of Uganda’s Insurance sector. The College is recognized under the Insurance (amendment) Act 2011, which came into force in 2011 as the Insurance Institute of Uganda (IIU) and by the Insurance Act 2017 which transformed the Institute into the Insurance Training College of Uganda, a public tertiary institution.
