At the Insurance Training College (ITC), we believe that the future of our industry depends on the strength of our collaborations. Yesterday, we had the privilege of hosting the leadership team of Sky Reinsurance Brokers for a partnership appreciation lunch at Skyz Hotel. While the gathering was a moment to express gratitude, it was also a vital opportunity to take stock of something far more important: tangible results.

When we speak about "building capacity," we are not speaking in abstracts. Thanks to the strategic and sustained support of Sky Reinsurance Brokers, we have been able to translate that commitment into direct, measurable impact on the ground.

Here is what that partnership has delivered.

Extending Knowledge Beyond Borders

Capacity building cannot happen in a silo. With the support of SkyRe, we successfully convened over 220 professionals from Rwanda, Tanzania, and Zimbabwe for a deep dive into emerging trends in financial and insurance risk. This exchange of best practices across borders ensures that our professionals are not just locally aware but globally competitive.

Empowering the Custodians of Risk

True capacity is built through peer learning and mentorship. Through this collaboration, we launched targeted initiatives for risk management professionals. We facilitated a mentorship lounge and curated session that brought together seven risk management custodians. These are not general lectures; they are focused engagements designed to refine the skills of those already in risk management positions, ensuring they remain at the top of their game.

Lowering Barriers to Professional Education

We recognize that financial constraints can often be the biggest hurdle to professional growth. To increase access to the Chartered Institute of Risk Management (CIRM) program, SkyRe extended a 10% tuition refund to ten students. By directly lowering the cost of entry, we are ensuring that a lack of resources does not stand in the way of a professional’s potential. These ten individuals are now better equipped to return to their organizations and drive risk excellence.

 Driving Discourse on the Future

The modern risk landscape is being reshaped by technology. To address this, we brought together 56 risk managers from the insurance and financial sectors to explore the role of Artificial Intelligence and data analytics. This session challenged industry leaders to rethink how they identify and mitigate threats in a digital age. It is this kind of forward-looking dialogue that keeps our industry resilient.

A Shared Vision for the Future

During our meeting, both ITC and SkyRe leadership agreed on a critical point: we cannot afford to stop at dialogue. The value of a partnership is not in the meetings held, but in the professionals trained, the students supported, and the standards raised.

Sky Reinsurance Brokers has demonstrated that true partnership requires both institutional commitment and the dedication of individuals who are willing to mentor the next generation. They have set a benchmark for how a private-sector player can actively shape the industry's talent pipeline.

 An Invitation to Industry Leaders

To other executives reading this: the progress we have made with SkyRe is proof of what is possible when intention meets action. ITC is the vehicle for professional development, but we rely on industry champions to fuel the journey.

We invite you to explore how your organization can leave a similar footprint. Whether through research sponsorships, mentorship programs, or scholarships, there is a pathway for you to build capacity and gain recognition as a architect of the industry’s future.

Let us move beyond dialogue, together.
