More than 30 schools competed on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at Sacred Heart Secondary School in Gulu City during the 3rd Annual Insurance Secondary Schools’ Contest. Bishop Angelo Negri College emerged as the winners of this event, which was the first of its kind held outside of Kampala.

Saul Sseremeba, the CEO of ITC, emphasized the organization’s commitment to spreading insurance knowledge throughout Uganda to enhance appreciation and uptake. He stated, “Our initiative targeting secondary schools helps inform the younger generation about the opportunities in insurance as a career option and as a service, starting at an early age.”

The Vice President of Uganda, represented by the Gulu City Resident City Commissioner (RCC), Mr. Onoria Ambrose, also encouraged students to embrace insurance as a safety net that contributes to economic growth. The over 400 students present were also encouraged to remain committed to education and learning as key cornerstones of national security and stability.

Mr. Onoria also shared a personal testimony of how having an insurance policy came in handy when he was involved in an accident that could have had a more devastating impact.

The contest was preceded by the donation of new lower secondary curriculum books to Awach Secondary School in Gulu District on 4th April. Before the donation, students had to borrow books from neighbouring schools kilometres away.

On the same day, insurance industry professionals conducted a 5-kilometre awareness walk through Gulu town, starting at the Insurance Regulatory Authority offices and ending at Bomah Hotel for a members’ dinner. The dinner was graced by employees of the different insurance companies in Gulu City and the Mayor of Gulu City, Mr. Okwonga Alfred, as the Chief guest.

In the spirit of “pi wan wen,” insurance professionals in Gulu went head-to-head with the students of Gulu University in a jaw-dropping soccer match, which saw the university students secure a glorious win.

As a college, we are delighted that we had the opportunity to discuss insurance with secondary school students, university students, our members, local leaders, school heads, and the public. We are looking forward to engaging with more communities in the other regions of the country.
