ITC celebrates 10th Graduation
1,161 students graduated in Certified and structured programmes

The Insurance Training College (ITC) celebrated a notable achievement of 1,161 graduands in a joyful graduation ceremony held at Hotel Africana on 3rd December 2025. Among them was the first cohort of the Advanced Diploma in Insurance (ADIU), comprising 7 pioneer graduates who now hold the highest professional insurance qualification offered by the College.

A total of 797 graduands received the Certificate of Proficiency (COP), 264 earned Certificates in Insurance (CIU), and 93 were awarded Diplomas in Insurance, reflecting ITC’s continued commitment to developing a skilled insurance workforce.

This year’s graduation ceremony also marks a decade of ITC graduation events, documenting progress, strengthening professional standards, and raising the bar for insurance training in Uganda and across Africa.

Presiding over the event as the guest of honour, the State Minister of Internal Affairs for Uganda Hon. Gen. David Muhoozi, commended ITC for its progress and for producing the first-ever ADIU graduates in the region.

Speaking on behalf of the government, he urged the graduands to extend inclusive insurance services to help close the country’s protection gap, noting that although more than 70% of Uganda’s population depends on agriculture, less than 1% of farmers have agricultural insurance. Referencing Uganda’s insurance penetration rate which is approximately at 0.8% of GDP, he encouraged the graduates to use their expertise to develop inclusive products that can reach millions of Ugandans and unlock growth opportunities across the country.

“The protection gap poses a serious national vulnerability. Closing it would transform insurance into a shield that safeguards livelihoods, reduces the risk of communities sliding into crime, and lessens the burden on the justice system,” said Hon.Gen. Mohoozi. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting ITC’s mission and strengthening the training pipeline for insurance professionals.

In his remarks, the Principal of ITC, Saul Sseremba, emphasized that the field is eager to see the fresh ideas and advanced skills these graduates will bring into practice. “Your future evolves here,” he said, a reminder that ITC remains a lifelong growth partner, preparing professionals not just for today’s demands but for tomorrow’s leadership.

Apart from graduating the highest number of students, Sseremba mentioned that also marks additional milestones, including:
• Graduation of the first cohort from Rwanda, reinforcing Uganda’s position as a growing center of academic excellence in East Africa.
• Introducing market-relevant programmes: Certificate in Takaful, Certificate in Insurance Broking, and Insurance for Non-Insurance Professionals programmes
• Advancing inclusive insurance with UNDP, training 40+ students
• Expanding regional impact by delivering the Diploma in Mauritius.
• Nurturing future talent through the Annual Secondary School Insurance Contest and training over 800 secondary school teachers.
• Digitizing ITC services to ensure seamless access for all stakeholders.
• Developing a Journal for Insurance & Risk Management, positioning ITC as a regional hub for research and knowledge.

The Chairman of the Board, Dr. Walusimbi Abdul Hafiz, reaffirmed that the graduates are now equipped to contribute meaningfully to an evolving industry, noting that success goes beyond technical mastery. “To lead, innovate, and excel, you must cultivate emotional intelligence, artificial intelligence literacy, effective communication, leadership, teamwork, and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to collaborate and thrive in dynamic environments,” he advised.

Reflecting on ITC’s mission, he encouraged graduates to embrace continuous learning, pursue specialized qualifications, and adapt to new technologies, noting that the future holds immense promise and will reward those who remain committed to constant evolution.

Alhaj Ibrahim Lubega Kaddunabi, the CEO of the Insurance Regulatory Authority, has applauded lecturers, students, and stakeholders for a decade of dedication, highlighting the growing number of female graduates as a sign that the future is female. He urged the graduates to carry forward this year’s theme, “A decade of professional excellence: shaping the future of insurance,” and to continue shaping the future of insurance by designing solutions that address agricultural risks and the realities of climate change.

The College officially unveiled its Anthem. Composed by Julius Katimbo, a College facilitator, the piece goes beyond music to reflect the identity, spirit, and vision of ITC. It also honours the integrity, professionalism, and unity of the ITC community.
