ITC Launches 8th Insurance Club at Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU)

The insurance sector is continuously changing, and it's critical to prepare the next generation of professionals with the skills, knowledge, and expertise to drive growth and innovation. In line with this goal, the Insurance Training College (ITC) launched its 8th Insurance Club at the Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU), Kampala Campus, on January 31, 2025.

Many insurance professionals never dreamed of working in insurance and didn’t prepare for it. For them, working in insurance came due to an available job opening in a new sector or as a last resort, especially for agents. This is why we have insurance clubs: to provide insurance as a viable career option and to empower students early enough.

Insurance clubs catalyze career development and play a critical role in advancing the younger population’s understanding and appreciation of insurance. Club members can connect academic knowledge with practical application through initiatives like visits to insurance companies, where they see how insurance principles are applied.

"Our goal is to empower students with knowledge, networks, and real-world exposure to navigate the insurance sector," said Sylvia Kajubi, the Deputy Principal of ITC, while addressing students at the launch.

Insurance clubs transcend reading about insurance; they are about experiencing and appreciating what it is. These experiences, including mentorship from practicing professionals, ignite passion, clarify career paths, and ultimately create a smoother transition from university to professional life.

The launch at IUIU is timely because ITC will also launch the Certificate in Takaful, a type of insurance system devised to comply with Sharia laws in which money is pooled and invested. The Certificate in Takaful will be available to all university students who wish to better understand Islamic principles and better place themselves in the financial services sector.

Dr. Walusimbi Yunus, the Dean of the Faculty of Management at IUIU, recognized the profound impact these initiatives could have by simply connecting theory with practice. "The skills and experience students gain will be invaluable, making them highly competitive in the job market," he added. Dr. Walusimbi also applauded ITC for the forward-thinking initiative and for extending these opportunities to IUIU students.

Other ITC university insurance clubs include Busitema, MUBS (Mbale Campus), Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST), Bishop Stuart University, Pentecostal University, Ndejje, and Gulu Universities.

Each insurance club is a platform that equips hundreds of enthusiastic professionals so that they will not have to play catch-up in a dynamic insurance sector.
