Mbale, Uganda – 11 April 2026 – Over 30 secondary schools from across Eastern Uganda converged at Mbale Secondary School today for a spirited display of intellect and teamwork at the 4th Annual Secondary Schools’ Insurance Contest, organised by the Insurance Training College (ITC).

Under the theme “Understanding Insurance: The Young Minds’ Challenge,” the competition successfully transformed complex insurance concepts into an engaging and educational experience for Uganda’s next generation. Students tackled rigorous quiz rounds covering risk management, hazards, premiums, and the fundamental principles of insurance, demonstrating impressive knowledge and sharp critical thinking.

St. Peter’s College Tororo emerged as clear champions, lifting the overall trophy. Rock High School secured a strong second place, while Bukedea Comprehensive School completed the podium in third. The winning teams were rewarded with cash prizes, televisions, and trophies in recognition of their outstanding performance.

Representing the Guest of Honour, Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among, Hon. Karim Masaba (MP, Industrial Division, Mbale City) delivered a powerful endorsement of the sector.

“Insurance is not a luxury; it is a necessity that supports modern economies,” he said. “From property ownership to business operations and access to transport and healthcare, insurance has become a daily basic requirement. Initiatives like this are vital in bridging the knowledge gap and building awareness at an early stage.”

Principal of the Insurance Training College, Saul Sseremba, praised the students’ enthusiasm and highlighted the broader career message behind the contest.

“We are here to challenge you to become curious about insurance,” Sseremba said. “Your participation, teamwork, and enthusiasm have been outstanding. Insurance is rich with opportunities — whether you are an accountant, doctor, engineer, or any other professional, your expertise is needed in this multi-disciplinary sector.”

The Headmaster of Mbale Secondary School, Moses Buyera, welcomed the partnership with ITC, noting that the contest aligns perfectly with the new competence-based curriculum, which emphasises practical, real-world learning.

“ITC has not only empowered students but also teachers and the entire community who previously lacked awareness about insurance,” Buyera added.

Now in its fourth year, the Secondary Schools’ Insurance Contest has grown rapidly since its launch in 2023. After two editions in the Central Region and the third in Gulu City in 2025, this year’s event in Eastern Uganda reflects ITC’s deliberate strategy to take insurance education to every corner of the country.

By blending healthy competition with early exposure to financial literacy and risk management, the Insurance Training College continues to reshape perceptions of the insurance industry — positioning it not merely as a financial service, but as a dynamic, opportunity-rich career destination for talented young Ugandans.
